What is Skype for Business?
“Skype for Business” is provided as part of Microsoft’s “Office 365” corporate services.
It is included in the Business Premium plan of “Office 365”, but you can also subscribe for a monthly fee.
Like Skype, it is a tool that allows multiple members to easily perform voice chats and video conferences, and is fully equipped with a smartphone application. You can easily join a video conference by simply clicking on the pre-issued URL.
What’s the difference between Skype and Skype for Business?
Skype is basically a free tool for individuals, up to 25 people can connect at the same time. But Skype for Business can hold up to 250 people at the same time. In addition, it has a lot of security functions such as content encryption and usage restrictions depending on the administrator, so it is recommended for large companies.
The image quality is high and content can be shared, so it can smoothly handle meetings with a large number of participants. It is also possible to expand the audience to 10,000 people and perform one-to-many broadcasts. It can also be linked with certified devices such as cameras and microphones sold by other companies, so it can flexibly support various forms of web communication.
|Skype||Skype for Business|
|Free service for individuals||Paid service for corporations|
|Simultaneous conference up to 25 users||Simultaneous conference up to 250 users|
|–||Communication content encryption|
|–||Communication restrictions from the administrator side are possible|
|–||Multi-factor authentication prevents account takeover|

Skype for Business is obsolete! ??
In fact, new applications for Skype for Business are currently closed (except for some). This service has been absorbed into a new tool called Teams, and current users will have to migrate to Teams as well. However, Teams is now able to do various things that Skype for Business couldn’t do before, so it may be better to think of it as an evolution rather than an end of service.
Remote Work Labo also summarizes how to use Teams, so please have a look.
Especially recommended for large companies! Skype for Business
Skype for Business, which has high image quality and can handle large meetings, is highly reliable in terms of security, so it is especially recommended for large companies. It’s basically an advanced version of Skype, so I think many people are familiar with it.
As for customer support, a dedicated person will respond exactly, so it is easy to ask questions and you can rely on it even if you have trouble with introduction.
If you are unsure about communication tools, please give it a try!
