On September 5th, Regional Fish, a Kyoto University-launched venture company engaged in breed improvement and land-based aquaculture using genome editing technology, announced that it had raised 2.04 billion yen in series B funding.

In addition to five existing investors, including Beyond Next Ventures, Ebara Corporation, and Mitsubishi UFJ Capital, 12 new investors, including NTT Finance, Iwatani Sangyo, and Marui Group, became underwriters.

The total amount raised by Regional Fish is now approximately 2.64 billion yen.

Regional Fish will use this funding to establish a mass production system for marine products by building one of the largest aquaculture plants in Japan, as well as to advance overseas, improve breeds, and research and develop smart aquaculture.
